When Should You Book Your Fall Family Photos? (Hint: Earlier Than You Think)

If fall family photos are on your to-do list, but you keep telling yourself you’ll get around to booking them later, this is your little reminder!

Fall in North Georgia is a favorite for a reason. The changing leaves, cooler weather, and that beautiful golden light make it such a special time to capture your family. But between school schedules, sports, holidays, and everything else life throws at you, fall has a way of sneaking up on us.

And by the time those leaves start changing, many of the most popular photography dates are already booked.

So, when should you book your fall family photos? Let’s talk about it!

Why Booking Early Makes Life Easier

I get it. Life is busy. Between keeping up with the kids, managing a household, and trying to remember what day it is, planning family photos months in advance isn’t always at the top of the list.

But booking early can make the whole experience so much easier.

You’ll have a better selection of available dates, more time to figure out outfits, and the chance to choose a location that feels like your family. No last-minute scrambling to find coordinating clothes or trying to squeeze a session into an already packed weekend.

Because let’s be honest, getting everyone dressed and out the door for photos is enough of an adventure on its own!

Fall Dates Fill Up Quickly in Dahlonega Georgia

Fall is one of the busiest seasons for family photography, especially here in the Dahlonega area.

Between the beautiful mountain scenery, changing leaves, and those dreamy golden-hour evenings, it’s easy to see why families love fall portraits.

But here’s the catch: the best dates don’t always line up with peak fall color, and everyone’s schedule seems to get busier as the holidays approach.

If you have your heart set on a particular weekend, location, or look for your photos, reaching out early gives us more room to make it happen.

Already in October? Don’t count yourself out just yet! There may still be opportunities to capture your family this season, depending on availability and the timing of the fall colors.

A Little Planning Goes a Long Way

One of my favorite things about planning ahead is that it gives you time to actually enjoy the process.

Here’s what we can figure out together before your session:

  • Outfits: Choose colors and pieces that complement one another without making everyone look like they’re wearing a uniform.
  • Location: Find a spot that fits your family’s personality, whether that’s a mountain view, an open field, or somewhere a little more tucked away.
  • Timing: Pick a date and time that work for your family and give us the best chance at beautiful natural light.
  • The little details: Think about the personalities, giggles, and perfectly imperfect moments you want to remember.

My goal is to make your session feel relaxed and enjoyable, not like another thing on your already mile-long to-do list.

And no, your kids don’t have to sit perfectly still and smile at the camera the entire time. Some of my favorite moments happen in between the posed photos.

More Than Pretty Fall Leaves

As much as I love a beautiful fall backdrop, the real reason I love family photography has very little to do with the scenery.

It’s about remembering how little your babies were. The way your toddler insisted on being held. The gap-toothed grin, the wild hair, and the way everyone somehow ends up laughing when things don’t go exactly as planned.

Those are the things you’ll want to remember years from now.

Your family doesn’t have to be perfectly coordinated, perfectly behaved, or in a picture-perfect season of life to deserve beautiful photographs.

You just have to show up as you are.
